Longest drivers

I was reminiscing about all of the drivers I've hit over the years and there have been so many. Thought it would be interesting to list which ones were the longest and not necessarily the most forgiving. Here's my list of the longest drivers for me over the last 20 years. These are not in any particular order but based on when I was younger and really hitting some long drives (280-310 yards).

Cobra Fly Z with the Fuel shaft. This might be the longest driver I've ever hit. But it could get wild at times. When I hit it well, it was huge.
Wishon 525 GRT with Aldila NV 65. Really long, solid and pretty forgiving. I think it was a 10.5* and the shaft was stiff.
SMT 455DB at 10* with an Accuflex Assassin stiff flex. A classic that was extremely long for many years but the poon leaked out as I got older. Loved it for a few years.
Cleveland Classic 270 at 12* with the stock Miyazaki in regular flex. I really hit this one great although it did balloon at times. But when hit perfectly, it was as long as anything.
Orlimar Hip Ti 420 at 10.5*. Stock stiff shaft. Really a classic. Great feel, hot face. Wish I still had it.

Anyone else care to list their top five total distance drivers?

SMT 455/ Accuflex vs339. Loved that club. Ids what got me into some LD qualifiers. Watching the Worlds on Christmas Eve and googling what they were hitting.

RBZ Tour Driver/ HOF Patriot shaft. Another club that set up perfect at address and just felt great.

Taylormade M2/ HZRDUS Yellow Handcrafted. I got fitted for this a few years ago after hitting my Ping G30 LS against that head with a stick shaft and saw a huge difference. I immediately called my fitter for an appointment.

Ping G400max/ Paderson Velocity shaft. This is an LD combo I put together that I might use as a gamer. It was “that good” at the range. I have 5 other shafts at home at normal length which are still longer than any other driver at normal, not LD length. Best driver head ever. Stupid forgiving too.

Wow, I was mistaken about having the Assassin in my 455. In fact, it was the incredible VS339. What a great shaft. Not sure how I forgot that but time tends to blur memories.

The longest drives I ever hit were my first go around in golf in the late 80’s when I was much younger. I used to drive 270-280 on average with wound balls and this tiny headed, steel shafted, metal head cheapy that I picked up at a pro shop somewhere in California. After 20 so years out of the game, I can’t seem to bust one over 260 tops anymore with these grapefruit sized, graphite shafted behemoths. On average, I’m probably 220-230. I realize I’m older, but my swing isn’t what it used to be either. I can’t seem to find the slot.....

Swing is a bit different these days vs. in the heyday of clubmaking so I'm longer now. 3 stick out for modern drivers-
Ping G LS Tec 10.5 (NV 85) hands down the longest.
Cobra f6 10.5, no slouch, man did I have a good run with it. Ugly duckling though (the footprint is like a pancake, shallow face). Also with an NV 85. Forgiving, easy to hit, straight.
16 M2. As long as the f6, but I was no where near as consistent with it. Fuji Motore Speeder 8.3. thought this thing was gonna outshine everything, looked good, felt good, taller face height....looks like it wants to be hit. Should do it justice and find a nv 85 for it. Side note I could not consistently fade it which is a go to for me.

Old school....3 stand out-

Db455 vs339 - probably the longest....no business playing that shaft
Snake Eyes python XL UST v2 75 HL - consistent like the f6.....first stretched out driver I played
Dynacraft Avatar xMOI prolaunch blue 65.....didn't think I'd come close to the Python XL, but this combo did. Neck and neck in fact.... but the XL sound/feel was superior.

Honorable mention to ct250 and the dynacraft
avatar inversion for old school. Ct 250 sound and feel good, inversion not so much.

Never got one past 300. 295 was my longest, and that was with a stiff wind at my back and a baked out fairway. I believe that drive, as well as several others that I've hit in the 270 range or so came from a clone head by DTG. I think it was a Turner 504 that I put a Harmon Counter Balanced shaft in. Played great for me for about 3 or 4 years and then the head cracked, all the poon leaked out, and the identical twin that I put together to replace it didn't perform the same.

You guys have good memories. The longest driver I ever had was the one when I first started playing at 38. And it wasn't that it was anything special, I was just younger and fitter. I first started playing with persimmon drivers. My first metal head with a graphite shaft was a Yamaha driver that was literally barely the size of a golfball. I hit that thing about 250 and topped out at 270. I did hit one 300 but it was on really hard fairway and without gps who knows how far it really went?
After that they all blend together. I've hit all the SMT's pretty much, a few Bangs, some of the one off components that came and went, Tourswings, etc. I guess none was appreciably better or I would've kept it.
I did have good success with a DTG ParFit driver that was their first adjustable. I averaged an easy 240 with that driver with the occasional long one thrown in.
The absolute longest drive I ever hit was with an original Killer Bee 46" driver (or were they 48"?), anyway, I know that went a legitimate 300 cause I've since gone back to that course with gps and since I hit it at the base of a bridge I knew where it landed .
The last couple years I couldn't hit the ball out of my shadow and switched to a G400 Max driver this year and have picked up 20+ yards on most drives but I also made a swing change so who knows. I realized I was making a fake turn and now instead of turning my shoulders I concentrate on turning my center and I get way farther behind the ball. I think I'll take my old driver out with me today to compare and see what amount gain is driver related.

I had a few that were really long (for me), but not usually straight enough I could game them regularly. I had more power years ago when I used these, but I was always an inconsistent swinger. Two separate fittings a few years apart my SS ranged from 88 to 108. I felt bad for the fitters lol.

Titleist D2 w/ Accra SC75: I think it was an M3 shaft so probably too soft, but it was in a bore thru so I thought it might work.

KZG RBT 400 w/ NV 75: Got this from an FGI guy (Dr Green?). Labeled 9*, but hit pretty darn high

Ashton X-1 w/ Graf BiMatrx: This one was semi controllable

I must have had 100 drivers, but the longest ones I ever played were:

Components - Geek DCT 10.5 - in pretty much any shaft.
Aggressive 400 10.5 with some heavy Harrison shaft - Professional or Boron Tour
OEM - Orlimar HipTi 420 - I spent an hour at a demo day just bombing balls over the fence. The Orlimar guy just kept handing me different clubs. I felt like Happy Gilmore at the driving range. Everybody was just watching. That was also 25 years, 35 pounds and 3 knee surgeries ago.

And my absolute favorite driver of all time, which is why I didn't buy the Orlimar (plus it was like $400 for a driver in the 1990s) was the King Cobra Deep Face - I used the 10.5 (which I don't know they call Deep Face or not) with an Apollo steel shaft. I would just aim up the right side and draw it back to the middle. I was 30 yards past everybody with a Precept Extra Spin and hit about 80% of fairways. I am tempted to go out and buy one. They are like $15 on Ebay, but I am positive the poon has leaked out completely.

When I started playing golf a buddy had me hit his Titleist 975D 9.5 degree. Wow! Had to get one myself. Hit a couple over 300 yards with it. Tiny sweetspot but boy when you hit it.
Taylormade RBZ Tour.Stock shaft. Incredibly long but I could not control it. Maybe I should have put a different shaft in it.
Ping G LSTec, VTS Tour spx 7sx. For awhile this one was really special.
My most recent acquisition, a Callaway Epic Flash with VTS proforce 7sx is now the most consistently long, controllable and forgiving driver I have ever hit.

I also forgot the 983k. Only Titleist driver I've ever liked. Haven't used any after that except the 905R and it wasn't around long.
