Old School Tipping Info, Please!

Does anybody still have tipping info for the old Mercury Performance filament wound shafts? Couldn't find anything via Google. Thanks in advance!

I had some of those. I always got my Mercs from MyOstrich methinks. I don't recall if they were a combo flex or not.

Picked up 4 of them from my local golf component ATM, Mr. Potbunker, and put one untipped into my G400 Max. Still a super smooth and stable performer, but a little too heavy for my aging swing. So I want to try one in a fairway.

I remember Tim Hewitt talking about tip trimming Mercs. The company insisted their shafts were engineered to be butt trim only. They got badgered so badly for a trim chart they developed a trim chart just to quiet the inquiries.

I gotta say, tho, that a 1.5" trim for 3W and 2" for 4W and up seems pretty hefty. Anybody have any thoughts on that?

Not for a softer tip shafts that's the norm. Another filament wound shaft in the same vein that is available today and that I use a lot for rec golfers. Swing Science Series 200 (flex L, A, R, S) Driver 0", 3 Wood 1", 4 Wood 1.5", 5 Wood 2", 7 Wood 2.5" 9 Wood 3".

scotts33 Thanks for that comparison, Scott. I've used that shaft before (on your recommendation, I believe) many years ago and really liked it in driver and 3W. I don't remember specifically, but I'd be pretty sure I trimmed them per spec.

I put one of those (pre-2020) in my SMT 3390, tipped 1.5 inches (Reg flex)
Haven't hit it yet, but it does look purdy.

A difference of a 1/2" or so is only 4 cpm's which is negligible IMO. If a golfer doesn't fit a shaft he/she doesn't fit the shaft 1/2" less or more tip trim or 4g - 6 g added isn't going to change flex much if any at all. 4g - 6g does change heft match and may make the shaft better for balance point and head weight for a specific golfer.
