LD driver question...Eguller? Par4qc? Cole?

Guys, My Ping G400max driver head I have at 8 degrees (my playing driver is that head in 10.5) and I made up 2 shafts for it. Both I got uncut and installed them that way to make an LD set up.

I had the HOF at the range earlier in the year and it was good. The Paderson I hit indoors and got stupid high launch angles and height...and it was solid. I thought it was a bunch of misreads. I was wrong.

I threw down a few balls and hit the Paderson last night off the first tee. The ball went probably 200 feet in the air, carried to where my normal drive would be. Looked like it launched around 20+ degrees. Solid strike but literally almost straight up. Not ballooning... just stupid high. Never hit anything like that ever....any thoughts.

If I have a chance to hit it again I might move it back in my stance more toward normal and see if that does anything

Typhoon I watch the LD finals every year and am amazed at the height those guys get, even using 5-6* heads. When I play with Jake, I see the same thing with him using 9.5* heads. I built drivers for my son and used 8-9* because he also has that same launch height, sometimes more than twice as high as mine, and I consider mine too high with 7*. They both hit around 300 yds. always. My son does this with steel driver shafts, btw. He currently has a Bubba shaft; can't tell you how many graphites he's broken, even in XS.

I'd say, try something a lot lower loft/less spin. Or very tip stiff shaft. Or both. 😁

my opinion is yes that velocity shaft does launch higher than most shafts that would be similar to it. Stupid high? I don’t think so but this is just my findings.

First, at few questions.

How stiff do the shafts feel ?
Did you install them full length, untipped ?
How high did you tee them up ?

There are lots of variables that need to be considered.

_1" additional length will equal 1* difference in launch angle. However, you also may be getting high launch because the shaft is way too soft at that length. I used XXX shafts at 48" USGA length and tipped them slightly in a 5-6.5* heads. I still hit them very high.

One thing that personally was an issue with the longer shaft was making sure I actually brought my weight through and didnt leave it on the back leg which caused excessive launch angle as well. You may be suffering from the same issue, I found moving the ball to the outside of my front foot and letting my hips rip through got me good shots, the ball too far back got the hooks and the hips not through left the ball to the right. Timing is key for LD.

DC300 has it right. I also used XXX or XX most of the time at 48" and they didn't feel like rebar.
Best guess is too soft for length plus the shaft profile. I still have some new 5,6 & 7* heads that
are too much for me these days.

I used to have a couple xx shafts and they were too stiff. I m smooth and don’t have a hard transition so o get away with something softer. Both shafts I can feel load and they feel great at impact. I am playing them uncut at full length.

For the first time ever and LD club has felt good. Not too stiff, not too heavy. I do have it up outside my left foot. I know about that. I already play it up with a positive AOA.

do you have access to a trackman where you can see your AoA? I don’t think it’s gonna be the issue but it would be nice to rule it out.

At 48", most XX shafts should play & feel like an X. Your S-flex will play like an R or weaker.
If you can, try an X-flex at 48" - I don't have one now for you to try or I would send one along.

I'm nowhere near the bomber some of you guys are, but longer shafts seem to give me higher launch as well. I normally use stiff shafts in a 10.5-11.5 degree head, but have an Accuflex Pro LD X flex in a 9.5 at 47.5" that I've been hitting well this year.

I can get on a GC2 when I get to indoor golf. I was thinking they would play soft, but I was fine with it just because I was sick of stuff too stiff.

x flex might have been wise. I’ll have to look around. I can probably find an Accuflex on Pro series for under $50 or something from HOF

I’ve always liked at the Accuflex Vizion 50. I can get one in x for just under $50.

Now you have me thinking... we have a couple LD clubs at work that are around 7 degrees. One I think is a or a XX Speed with a Claymore xx shaft and we have an Adams Speedline 7.5 with a “Live Long” shaft maybe xx. I’ll have to check or have Nick grab one next time he’s there.

Yeah, no issue... I just got back from the range which opened today. I got comfortable with my set up. I think I had it up too far before. I did hit it high but not like the flight from the other week. Ball position was the issue. I hit it higher than my gamer but forever. Jesus.... I’m in shock and crazy straight. I could seriously use this as my gamer. Craziness.
