I just received a sleeve of cut grey because of sheer boredom. What is the suck factor of these?

sdandrea1 IF I had my swing from about 10 yrs. ago, I might be able to see a difference in the new mumbajumba of clubs today. But, I don't and...I don't. I still buy/build/sell, like you and others. Always. I wish our PIAS hadn't closed up several yrs. ago. I was like you, shopped there weekly...sometimes daily.

Last week played four 9's with Oncore Elixir, MG Golf Senior (illegal) ball, Srixon Soft Feel and Cally Super Soft. Low 40's each 9 within 2 strokes. Ball doesn't help this geezer. Best 9 thirty-nine was with FC-One Plus shovels and a Juan Putt face-on putter now that putter might make a difference.

On topic found a Cut Blue decent ball. Next 9 after the cut Blue last summer with a TF Bomb same score. lol

I got some of those FC one plus iron heads in. Those things are massive lol. I made up a demo club and it’s super easy to hit high and straight. 😃

I like to play different clubs or combination of sets per round. I play mostly the same courses with the same group of guys, so I mix it up with clubs. The only constant seems to be my putter. My VA group is small, so they notice what's in my bag. First tee goes like: "So Steve, what's in the bag today?" 😁

Ball doesn’t change my score one bit. The one ball I’m reluctant to use is prov1. They are the shortest ball I have ever hit. I don’t get the spin thing. I hit a 2 piece ball with a lob wedge it takes a hop and stops. If I chip it I want it to run.

Tinker The Pro V1 is for Pros and I'm not saying that to be a jerk. You have to have good/great swing speed to get distance from them, when you do its like cheating to be able to get a ball that long to spin like it does. You have to want to throw darts with it, hit the ball in tight or if you are playing on glass you can hit more controlled chips. You can also throw those low liners in there and watch it hit and zip back. With the original or my favorite the Pro VX, I can actually change my attack and get way more aggressive, which is only useful when Im playing enough to be accurate enough for it to matter. For the last 7 years there has only been about 5 times I have been playing well enough to take advantage of it, but there was a time when I loved having them in the bag.

I bought a sleeve of Cut Grey (free plus $4.95 shipping). Played today with the Cut, Pro V1 and Pro V1x. Longest by about 10 yards or so was Pro V1x, next was Pro V1, then the cut. Softest around the green and putting was Pro V1, Cut, then Pro V 1x.

Wasn't all that impressed with the Cut. OK I guess, but probably wouldn't buy anymore.

One of our occasional members of my Monday golf group played in my foursome today and he's a big proponent of Cut.

He got my attention when he was sticking 20-30 yard chips to a few feet of the stick. After the 2nd stick, I had to walk over and take the ball out of the hole and check which model he had in play. Cut Blue in a yellow cover.

I'm buying their starter pack and see how they react off my swing speed.

If you need shovels that's a hybrid-ish shovel. Suits some golfers but purists....no. 😁

DC300 I agree, I don’t have nowhere near the speed to get anything out of a pro v. That being said how many golfers at the local course do? My customers used to drive me crazy about clubs and balls that would “ back up”. I would tell them if your good enough to hit it 10 feet past the hole and back it in you should be good enough to hit it 10 feet short and roll it in.

Tinker Ha! I love that logic! I have only played with a handful of people in the normal world that can actually get the swing speed to justify using the Pro V. If I had to throw a number on it, that ball is for 5% of golfers, but probably 98% have tried it because thats what the pros use. I have the speed, but not the swing for it, its amazing off the irons and would use one on a par 3 course, but its DANGEROUS for me off the tee. My hook can become a thing of shocking proportion with one, so I have to be "on" to even think of using one.

I don't know if I get a noticeable distance difference with any ball but I do have preferences in feel that does have an effect on my confidence. I don't like soft balls (make your own joke). I like a crisp feel at impact on both irons and putter. And I like a ball that does one hop and stop. The higher spin balls tend to really give me inconsistent chipping. I don't want a ball to check up on a chip or pitch shot. I had an issue with the Topflite gamers. Sometimes they would check and sometimes not. My favortie ball for the past two seasons has been the Volvik Vivid green. I have some Maxfli Straightfli matte green to test drive this week.

Rickochet I had an issue with the Topflite gamers.

That's what I've found with the 3 pc. Surlyn balls is that they are inconsistent with the partial shots, sometimes they check sometimes not. I gave up on em and went to the Srixon Q Star Tour for my spring/fall ball, also use it during summer as I've found it a hair longer than most. Spin much more consistent then it's surlyn counterparts.

For a DTC brand I really like Snell......the original MTB was a very good ball, still have a few sleeves left. So many of these kinds of balls out there now it's pretty cool. Cut, Snell, Vice, and then you have brands like Kirkland, Maxfli, OnCore, etc.....you would not need to give your $ to any of the OEM, if you didn't want to!

I have a bud in our group that uses the ProV (age 76). He plays the ball way back in his stance plus closes the club face on take away. He can't hit a wedge over a 10' tree anymore and he thinks the ProV spin is going to save him on the green.

DC300 Pro V is short for me but the Pro V 1X is fine. I only play them if I find them . I might be the only guy who's disappointed to find a Pro V 1

Thing about spin is, hardly anyone knows how to even get it, regardless of the ball used. It's really not a natural occurrence just because the club struck the ball. Then, there is the fact that hardly anyone strikes the ball correctly. At least I assume as much from reading scores posted from millions of players, not on the Pro Tours. So, balls are balls, for the majority of players. It's just a matter of what they want to believe in, and what they want to pay.

So true. A lot of my friends are just getting into golf or have always sucked, but they all want to know how to make the ball back up like the pros. I tell them its actually quite easy, there are 2 methods, A) hit it like the pros do or B) hit something solid behind the green and it will come back. The other factor in spinning a ball is course conditions, but nobody ever seems to want to hear that part. Our fairways are not what they play on and our greens aren't cut like that either, the ball is NOT going to do that on 99.8% of public courses.

On great course with nice tight fairways and good greens, I can still zip on once in a while, but it takes work. I have a natural advantage, extreme shot height, works way more consistently than trying to judge the spin. I just use height to my advantage 99.9% of the time. You can do it with any ball, though as to be expected, some (rocks) will still have a touch more roll out.

Haven't ever had a chance to try a Cut golf ball yet. I've been ordering more and more golf balls online lately, so maybe I'll get around to it soon enough since I've been skipping from ball to ball somewhat aimlessly lately. Just got an email earlier in the week saying the Costco Callaway balls will be $10 off (for a double dozen) later this week, so I'll probably swing by there a stock up on a bunch. Not a urethane cover, but a pretty decent performing ball.

johnnydoom Golf ball trials become a worse sickness than club trials...from my experiences. I've got so many boxes of balls here, and myriad brands, and have been looking at/reading about others still. My latest purchase were these, but I've not got to play them yet; perhaps in a day or 2 when it dries out a little.
