Another day of 36 ⛳
Decided to go to Door Co. today. It was 64 at tee off and 74 after finishing. Wow what a great day for golf.
Maxwelton Braes in the morning. This is very much a muni, tee boxes and greens are watered by hand, and are darn near perfect. Fairway and rough, very dry and spotty, as their is no irrigation. That's ok as balls were rolling out into the fwy and rough and stopping on the greens, best of both worlds. Mostly flat and open off the tee, it is a fun layout with very good green complexes and surrounds. Starts off with two drivable par 4's and then two gettable par 5's. Yes, it is possible to be -4 or better after 4 holes here and with the conditions, now is the time. 9 is a signature hole, sweeping left to right and a semi blind approach. Back 9 there is more intrigue with sweepers and a little bit of rolling terrain/elevation change.
The Orchards in the afternoon after a beer at Door Co. Brewing and a Chicago Style Dog at Wally's weenie wagon 🙃. Two quality stops. Orchards was primo condition wise less some of the greens were aerated. A nice mix of prairie and tree lined, there are some orchards on the course that come into play. Apparently it is ok to pick apples as the single I was paired with and his wife were picking and eating😆. There are some seriously good stretches of holes on this course that I love, 5-6-7, 12-13-14, and 16-17-18. Front is flat and the back you get some really good elevation change, leading to some amazing holes as a result. 12-13-14 IMO is magnificent. 12 and uphill par 4 that sweeps right to left, in-between the foliage and a bunker left, the landing zone is open enough but if you are wayward you can be ob right or unplayable left. Approach is blind to wide green that is fairly severe and mini tiered and slightly perched. It's not an easy green to hit as a result. 13 angles to the left and is up hill off the tee and then severely downhill on the approach from about 100-110 is flattens and then goes down. Approach is blind. Pond guarding the right side of the green and orchard guarding the left side of the fairway which is the bailout. 14 is straight downhill, guarded by native grass on the left and a bunker complex as well left. Downhill lie approach to fairly easy green to hit that has bunkers guarding the left side. The tee shot is blind and the right side is OB. I play my own combo tees as the blue is 6700+ and the white is 6200+, so I play 1, 2, and 9 from the blue, they are all 320-350 and the further back tees offer more of an angle and challenge. 13-14 are meant to be played from the blues and totally change the hole to make them special. 13 makes the approach blind, 14 makes the tee shot blind. 15 makes middle fairway pot bunker a factor. Brings the yardage to 6400+ which is what I am used to. I always walk off the course satisfied.
