"Just saw the headline about Willie Mays passing. He was my first baseball hero."
Saw him play once, and he only pinch hit.....my wife and I took a trip to NYC in 1969 and wound up at a Mets game.
He had been traded to the Mets, and was near the end of his career. I don't remember whether he got a hit or not, but I took a picture of him in the batter's box waiting for the pitch. Actually, I hate seeing all those film clips of his
famous "The Catch" play in center field. To an old Cleveland Indians fan, it's having to relive that World Series loss
all over again.....!!
