Typhoon
Got two quotes yesterday (getting two more today). Both had Metal ~ a 40% increase over Dimensional shingles. My brother in law said their Metal roof was ~ 25% more than Shingle.
Their vacation home is in Sebastian which is on the east coast of Florida just above Vero Beach. You drive around over there and you see a lot of Metal roofs. But they've had some big hits with hurricanes over the last 20 years.
I'm not going to pay 40% more for Metal. The Architectural shingles from GAF and Owens Corning have a wind rating of 130 mph. If we were younger we'd probably go with Metal.
Also, because we're self insured we have no pressure from insurance companies to replace the roof. We could keep repairing it. Neighbors down the street have until July to replace their roof or they'll lose their insurance.
If we were still in Haverhill MA. we'd get Shingle. You don't have the hurricane issue like here in Florida. Nor'easter's aren't that bad unless you live on the ocean.
