KCee I only spent 3 days there on a work trip once, but one thing greatly impressed me. I walked to a vendor 2 miles from the hotel in the morning, and we ended up working until 11:00 pm that night. When about to leave I asked if I needed a cab since it was late at night or if it was safe to walk back. They said it's safe and being an angry looking ugly dude I wasn't very worried so I walked back. Saw a bunch of elder folks out strolling around, young women out jogging alone, and an assortment others out enjoying the night air. There is no 2 mile stretch within the Memphis city limits, or most other mid-to-large cities anywhere else where I would feel that safe after 10:00 pm. When I got back home I researched the crime in Boston and found that it is much lower, per capita, than almost any decent size city in the U.S. Don't know how they do it, but I applaud them.
