I'm flying back to North Texas from Madison, WI. I just spent a week with my 91 year old parents. My mom fell about 3 weeks go, hit her head, and was taken by ambulance to the ER. After she left the hospital she wore a heart monitor, which detected irregular rhythms and she was called back to ER. They determined she needed a pacemaker, but she suffered a collapsed lung during surgery, which resulted in 5 extra days in the hospital. I arrived the day after she left the hospital the 2nd time. Thankfully she's doing much better than a week ago. Even after having to endure my cooking, lol.
I'm blessed to still have parents living independently at their age, but this was a reality check about what potentially lies ahead. I have a brother that lives much closer than me who helped out after the fall and while she was in the hospital, but he's still 2.5-3 hours away.
