Although I consider them one of the dirtier teams back in those days, I don't think anyone, including myself, feels that an apology tour 30 years later is necessary. It's who they were and how they chose to play.
When Jadeveon Clowney's hit took Carson Wentz out of the game in the playoffs last season, I thought it was intentional targeting and a dirty play. Does that mean that I wouldn't want Clowney on my team? Nope. Especially for a team that needs someone on a defensive unit who has more than just a normal body temp and a pulse.
Not sure the Pistons even factor those two seasons without Laimbeer, let alone run the tables. He's just not one of those athletes who most fans found appealing, even in that physical style of pro basketball back in that era. But on that same token, if that's how you choose to play and you don't give a damn about your reputation, you should probably expect some grief from fans/media later down the road. That he commented the way he did 30 years later, in some ways, makes me respect him even more. At least he's authentic.
