Bored, so I checked the 'inventory' and what beauty did I come upon ?
Potentially, the TM killer - Mini Driver. A Titleist 975D 11.5 w/HC !!!
it is in great shape for its age ( shaft under grip says 11/89 ). A coat of
Liquid Glass and I'll give it a go the next time out. Loved the feel of a 9.5*
I had some time ago. Slipped one a new grip and ready to go....

That's a beauty! I tried a 975J as a mini driver for awhile and have now settled on a taylormade 320ti as my mini driver. I cut mine down and added lots of lead tape and it's awesome! Good luck with your mini driver!

shokosugi I cut mine down and added lots of lead tape and it's awesome!

I may try that, but for now it is at original length of 44.75". I may go 44" but no shorter.
The hope is that it is a steroid 3w....lol

I have 2 of them in 8.5ยฐ. I picked them up cheap at the Thrift store. Mine flies low, straight and ok on distance. I call it the fairway finder.

Mattyv I call it the fairway finder.

That is the idea - mid trajectory and dead straight.

        Mattyv

Mine is 8.5 deg too. I use it for short par 4's or if it's a tight driving hole. Suprisingly, it's not much shorter than my rogue sz, and once fairways dry up, it might narrow the distance gap even more.

Here are my 2 versions. The one on the right was my 1st paint job I tried on a club. It was a little beat up when I bought it so I figured what the heck. I went to an automotive paint store and bought spray cans of primer, color and clear coat. I think it came out pretty good and the finish has held up very well. I have never hit the one on the left.

          Mattyv

That looks sweet. I'm almost tempted to do that to mine but can't justify spending more on paint than what the driver is worth lol. Heck, the 15g of lead tape i used costs more than the driver is worth too.

            shokosugi

I think it was about $15 worth of paint. I did it more as an experiment than anything. I probably paid $3 for the driver.

Definition of mini size? 250cc and down?

scotts33 In this day in age, under 400cc seems to count, but id say 300cc and down is fair.

Side note, I'd get a Cleveland Launcher 400 if I were building an older "mini driver". Nobodybsays it HAS to be tiny.

I still have a 12* McHenry Metals Tour Pure Thriver (shafted with a JavlnFX) in my basement that I haven't used for a long time because I like my 3w and 5w now. I think they were about 275cc. Man, I could pound the crap out of that thing. I might have to dig it out for the hell of it when/if we ever get to play golf again...

We'll get out again Joe. I'd bet in May some time when corona abates in Cheeseland. Gov. Evers shut down WI State parks today because of the dumb ones out there.

                I like McHenry Metals stuff!
