Moe/ Graves/ Junge swing

Anyone here currently using the Moe Norman type swing?

I watched a Junge video on YouTube about why he no longer uses the Moe Norman swing. Very interesting. I especially paid notice to what he said about having to stand too far from the ball with fairly stiff legs making it difficult (for him) to make consistent contact. And yet he played and taught that swing for many years, quite successfully.

DonM that's the sticking point for me with SP, finding hands on instruction. I need somebody to confirm I'm doing what I think I'm doing, at least early on.
I agree though, when I've tried it , it worked better with woods.

scotts33 I think Moe's was just a savant. Chasing Moe's swing or expecting anything close to Moe's results are a fool's folly. Wasn't Moe's early swing conventional and he was still great. He certainly didn't swing like "Natural Golf Moe" in the early years, which actually shows what a one of a kind he was. He changed swings in his 50s-60s and still hit it better than almost anybody

garyt1957 What I mean in reference to Moe is the club face control that one plane swings create. See DonM's response to my post. I did not mean anyone trying or using a one plane swing with automatically become as great as Moe by any means. That was my point ----> club face control.

If one tries single plane normally most "feel" that very quickly. Most note that their shots are way more accurate but lose distance with longer clubs until they get how to use longer clubs more and more.

garyt1957 Moe’s young man’s swing was single plane but with much more movement and turn than the old guy swing that is on all the videos. He went single plane at age 19.

Not sure if I missed it or not but do you need to make any equipment adjustments for single plane swings?

azgreg IIRC, when I did Natural Golf, their clubs had thicker, non-tapering grips and a more upright lie angle. I don't remember about length.

azgreg No and yes.
You can definitely make a good try of it with your normal clubs.
You might find you should use more upright lie angles.
You probably should go up a size in grips. Regular to midsize, midsize to oversized. You need them to be more hand-filling.
