Help...Weird AP3 specs ??

I am doing a regrip of some NEW Titleist AP3 for a friend and decided to measure them before
I dove into the job. The pic below shows the Swing Weight, Length and overall weight. They are
new and have Project X 5.5 Flighted shafts. Length appears spot on, but the SW and overall weight
is ....whatever... I don't think he picked up fakes, they look vey good with the 6 iron having the appropriate
holograms stickers and serial #. Thought ? I am reluctant to put on expensive grips until I have a
handle on this. ???

Shafts from factory, or did someone do a reshaft? Did the clubs come direct from Titleist, is my meaning?

A few years ago on FGI, I bought a set of Titleist heads, almost new. When I went to build them, I had to weigh the heads several times; I could not believe they were exactly 7 gr. gapped. Most perfect set of irons I've ever built, SW wise.(also looks)

I think any ol' cut/glue job would look better than those figures.

Looks strange and almost reverse of what you would think based on Flighted shafts. Yes, Titleist iron heads are usually spot on spec.

Eguller Looks like someone just grabbed a handful of shafts and started building without weighing/sorting. Doesn't sound like something Titleist would put out.

I'm not seeing these with Project X shafts. TT AMT was standard.

Project X shafts can be a custom order when new, but I agree, I doubt they were from Titleist.

If your swingweight scale is working properly, those clubs are hosed up, for sure.

It is an oldie GWorks, but works just fine. I talked to the owner and I won't go into the whole strory,
but it appears that the shafts may be fake (grips too ?) and were just stuck in. There is an outside
chance that the whole club is FAKE but maybe .... The heads are Uhit - so it is a mystery only solved
by my tearing them apart, etc. NOT... He is not going to play them and have me regrip his old set. LOL....

Shafts may be screwy, and appear to be fitted wrong per head. And even though the heads may well be fake, it certainly does not mean they are not playable.

Not playable by him...lol. He picked them up and we discussed it. The shafts are fake. The grips
have all the attributes of fake. The heads appear genuine but..who knows.

Playable...with C8-D8 SWeights ? They would need an involved rework. Not me, not him. Off they go.
Now- I've got a real regrip to do. Later...

I wasn't clear, I guess. Meant the heads were probably good to go. Even fake they can be built/played.

Probably only 1/500 players would have any problem with those clubs, as they are. Let's make that 1/5000.

True. The heads probably would be playable but he is a good golfer and would require a reshaft minimum. The reason I decided to measure them was the difference I felt just picking them up and swinging them a bit. I really had no reason to doubt them when he dropped them off. It was just to be a regrip of new clubs as he preferred Winn DriTac.

On very close examination, there was a tiny bit of epoxy just above many ferrules. Reshaft most likely.

Original shafts may have been tip or hossell weighted. Reshafter might have just yanked them out and put new ones in. Check hossell depth, it should be uniform.

Well, he took them and left his other set of Callaway Tour X20 to regrip. He will probably pass them on
'but will disclose the potential issues. Oh, below is a shot of one AP3 head I took before he took them.

That’s a long way off. Especially looking at the long irons. I could see the short irons coming in that light (due to not using tip weights) but that D8???

if you do reshaft I’d be curious of the head weights.

Yep, I'd be curious too. Re-shaft probably won't happen as he is inclined to use the X20's and then get
fitted for a new set. Think he learned his lesson. Tough call but I think the heads are genuine.
