Haven't been to the store since 3/12, so cannot speak 1st hand as to what is going on in them. I did not go on a 'stock up' rage, but seemed to get quite a lot, just because of the sale prices. Menard's has several grocery aisles and that is where I started, getting soups and bottled water, which we buy any way. The soup was priced low, so grabbed at least 10-12 cans. Also picked up some of those packages of tuna/salmon. I did find hand sanitizer there and got a couple bottles; there were lots more.(I think Mom would have been proud of me π ). Went to grocery store and got just a few other items. Only got 1 loaf of bread, for better or worse, but have a couple of those frozen loaves in freezer, and only grabbed 1 pack of TP as we had some already. At this point, we'll be good for at least a couple more weeks with everything. I probably should have gone back immediately and just went crazy, I guess. Not looking forward to getting back out in it, esp. as things progress. We can get the kids to go and bring it to us, but even at that, I hate asking anyone to put themselves at risk. We'll see how it plays out, but unless all items I want are known to be 'gettable', I'll ride it out. Only want to make 1 trip, if any.
I have seen the local FB horror sights/stories from locals though. Empty shelves and everyone is still nuts over TP. The whole situation is just not going to get better...the hoarding, the fact that people are going out every damn day in search of the items to hoard. They do not realize what they are doing is going to cause the prices to double on everything, if it only doubles. And those prices will not be reflecting gouging, it will be reflecting human stupidity.
