education and keeping things constructive ( it can certainly test you ) goes a long way.
Things we do to help are have the Starter indicate the expectation for pace, get them on the correct tee block ( some courses move the tees up a box on weekends π ) ask groups to self monitor using , look at the time clocks out there and be aware that a marshal is out there to assist and keep things moving for everyone. They can text in if there is an issue and the marshal will get a call to address it.
We need to keep in mind most of us here are golf nuts so cognizant of the impact of slow play etc. At a public access and semi-private course many of the golfers may only play once , twice, a couple times a year. Its a customer service business so keeping people happy and making them want to come back and be positive is of paramount importance. Especially with social media where one negative comment can outdo 10 positives. Research shows that First impressions are the most important and why our course has moved to having more "mature" and experienced people at the bag drop and front desk.
of course there are those who just don't get it, or dong care the ones who yell at you , ( had one guy threaten me with a club for telling him to not drive the cart on the fringe of a green)
or as soon as you are out of site on the fairways when it is CPO. ....and there are some players, that are just so bad and so slow that no matter what they try, they always fall back behind and impact play....
