Par4QC These guys are not in the slightest worried about 'distance'. It is Par they are pissed about. They were brought up to believe/think that Par should never be beaten. Their only true 'tradition' is being idiots. Like their forefathers.
And they are equating distance to Par. And that is not always the case.
Interesting perspective, I haven't really looked at it this way.
My sense is that they feel distance as one of the several skills in golf is becoming too heavily weighted.
ANGC has increased the length of #13 by what some 55 yards and the course itself by 600 or so. Yes, this is probably due to "par" but the increased distances the ball is hit from the tee has fundamentally changed the way the hole was designed to play. If we want to continue to challenge the elite players of the game they feel they need to keep lengthening courses.
If par didn't matter then the pros could play on any 6000 yard course. Although , Im not so sure the entertainment value would still remain for tv
