Geek No Brainer, MCS 75 Blue shaft

This review has a caveat: My swing is in a pretty good slot right now and I'm scoring well. so confidence is high right now.

So, I was gifted a Geek NB head - 10.5 grey model. I wanted to try a heavier shaft (I've been playing 48 to 55g driver shafts lately) in search of lower launch. I bought an MCS 75 Blue driver shaft because it was heavier and mostly because it's BLUE. It's REALLY TOTALLY GAYAZZ BLUE (and it was $12 + shipping)! The goal was accuracy, lower launch, lower spin and shitloads of runout. I cut it at 44.75" and took it out today for an 18 hole league outing. I had a whopping $3 on the line, so the pressure was intense. The club was obviously heavier in total than the featherweight Cobra FMAX Superlite that I've been hitting weather balloons with. I didn't bother checking the swingweight because some expert dude said that swingweight is uninteresting.
Anyway, the unit performed as intended. Most of my shots were struck in the center area. I missed 2 fairways today and both of those shots were leakers that faded a bit too much. The other shots flew low to mid trajectory and were very straight. Runout was scary long and I had some shorter than usual approach shots today. Feel and sound was different. It did not have that "I smashed it" feel, and I'm guessing that the tip is probably stiffer than what I'm used to. Sound is "solid" if that makes any sense, no loud "tink", but not that muted Titleist/Callaway/Cobra sound either.
The clubhead looks square to me at address and not very long from face to back. Nice DEEP face lets me tee it a various heights. I was surprised how straight I was able to hit a non-offset head, so this is a bit eye-opening for me.

I'd say the shaft is a good value and looks great (to everyone except spuzz). I think my long drive today was 240 (which is super long for me but I'm betting it was 50 yards of roll. All-in-all, it's probably no better for me than any other driver available past or present, but with the accuracy and flight, it's a very good unit for my current courses.

I'm going to keep gaming it until I'm bored or it fails me.

Steve, how much shorter is the 44.75 inches than what you have been playing with the lighter shafts?

I've been thinking about possibly going shorter/heavier too. Hit balls at Orange County National in
Orlando today, and the Driver was going lower than usual. Obviously, I'm not at home, without access
to my workshop, butI feel like I need to change SOMETHING....I guess next time I'll choke down an
inch and see what that does for me.....

Additional note..........The RBZ Max irons are spoilers. They look fucking HUMONGOUS in the bag, but a little smaller at address. Very easy to hit high straight shots that land and bite with the higher lofted clubs. I even hit the 5i well! I was suprised how easy it was to chip with the A and SW, Those giant soles scared me at first, but they picked the ball right off our pool-table like lies. I literally hate huge irons, but I shot a 5-over par 76 today and our team won some $. That's my 3rd sub 80 round in 2 weeks. My index is down to 11 and my course handicap is 7 now, so if I keep this up, I'll get to a number I can no longer defend. Life is good!

1.25 inches. The Cobra was 46. The entire club is probably 40 or 50 grams heavier. The NB head was a bit over 200g, the shaft is 70g and the grip 50g. I think the Cobra driver weighed 270 total.

sdandrea1 Almost all of my drivers are in that range, 320 gr. total weight, but @46". I have just built a couple and gone back to the 54-60 gr. shafts, so we'll see what they do when the courses open again. I should also build something heavy and short to try, I guess. Glad to see this heavier , shorter club did you good.

Then acc. to the swingweight calculator on Aaron's website, the club weighs in at D-2 point something. That's
a range that most of us would be comfortable with. Thanks for the info.....the wheels are turning in my head....!!

I have a swingweight scale right here on my workbench. All my ho-ing and experimenting has proven swingweight doesn't seem to affect my swing - I seem to be able to adapt to whatever is in my hands.. I do use it to match irons when building a set for someone else.

Glad the heavier shaft seems to work out for you Steve. I remember mentioning it to you before when we were talking about the Cobra shaft. I don’t pay much attention to swing weight unless I’m hitting something like crap. Swing weight is just the relationship between the 2 ends of the club with no regard to total weight. Total weight is where it’s at. Keep killing it!!

That was the impetus to try a heavier shaft. It doesn't give that "I mashed it" feeling, but the ball flight is WAY different. Thanks for the tip!
