Few of them would've prospered like they do today had they been playing back in the days of Hogan, Nelson, and Snead. Not that they didn't have a swing coach, although back in those days it was slim pickings. They didn't have launch monitors, nutritionists, or strength/conditioning coaches, or complimentary airfare, or handsome 7-figure endorsement contracts. Most of them never even had full-time caddies, because caddies weren't exactly earning even a good living.
A lot of today's players play merely a version of a game that was played many years ago. Of course, the same can be said of just about every sport today. Imagine Bill Russel, Larry Bird, Kareem, Magic, Barkley, Karl Malone, etc. trying to explain load management to their coaches and teammates...
These guys ought to be thanking their lucky stars that they have the privilege to miss a bunch of cuts, take a month or two off, without having to worry about paying bills, so they can rest up, reset their minds, work on their games, etc.
And yeah, that applies to me too... I'm lucky that I didn't have to work like my daddy did. But damn, he'd slap me silly today if he was still around and listened to me complain about my lot in life.
