I'll start. Vertex AW on SK Fiber TT75R shaft. Cleveland Launcher HB 5W on UST 55 Gold R shaft.

Just installed an Acer 12* driver head on a Graftech 55 gram senior flex shaft. Next, I have to decide whether to
leave it LOOONNNG (it's almost 48 right now without a grip), or cut it down to 44 or 45 and call it a "Thriver."
I've messed around with 47+ inch drivers before, but had settled on 46 inches for the last few years.
I've been thinking maybe it's time to go a little shorter for more solid contact and straighter flight.....

fatshot Yeah, the perennial longer driver - shorter driver quest. I'm about to start trying longer again. The course I'm playing is pretty wide off the tee, and I sure could use another 10-15 yards on several holes.

It's the older Acer XV. The catalog weight is 200 grams. I've been meaning to ask you, since we're both tall (I'm 6'6"), how long do you build your drivers....?

colej Yep-- that is me. Still driving the 2014 Durango I won. Funny that the Wishon 575MMC #7 Iron designed in DURANGO won me the DURANGO. LOL

Anyway- still at it. Coaching HS golf-- 30th year. Sold those irons to a former player when his were stolen at college. I loaned them and he would not give them back!! LOL-- gave him a great deal.

How are things with you? You were in the business at one time?

I like my TS-2/TS-1 combo's-- but always looking for something better..

PTMs look a bit bigger, and look like they have a bit more offset than the TS-1. Ball flight is a little lower than the TE. PTMs are much more game improvement than you'd expect.

I would think the PTM would be just a tad more forgiving than the TS2 and a bit larger in size. I would think the PTM would also have a more forgiving sole.

I never really built clubs full time. Always on the side. I’ve got a really good full time job and I just don’t see where I could make this kind of money (and retirement benefits) fitting clubs.

Sparky I don't understand why GW does not currently offer a true GI iron with a COG as low as the TE. Everything they are making now is higher COG. Which is fine for people with good swing speed.

46" is my normal and I do the 175g drivers at 47.5". At 70 now with less turn I might try some shorter ones this summer including some short/heavy combos and see how it goes. Each spring now brings new surprises.

DonM My guess is there is so much emphasis on goings on behind the clubface that thicker top lines are required. That adds weight up high and brings the COG up. TE is a rarity, a blade with perimeter weighting.

Sparky All they need to do is copy the Razr X iron and be done with it. But you're right, the money is now in higher tech, and they can't seem to get low COG on those. Also, they seem to dislike large offset. Same with Tom Wishon. Bigger offset helps get the ball up.

DonM My Sterling A and S fly really high. So high that I replaced then with Vokey SM6
I want to like them but I can't get the flight down. The rest of the irons 5-P are fine however.

have you tried stiffer shafts and or strengthening the lofts??

candukid Yeah this is common with SL, for sure. With my last set I got better at moving the ball back a little, and dragging the handle too. I am sure I'm going to see the same thing with the Vertex set.

FST 115 S flex (which is Technically the same as the R flex) I may try bending them a bit stronger by a deg or two.
Also thinking of cutting them down a quarter to half an inch.
But the vokeys are really sweet....

wonder if the FST 125 could also be a good option for your wedges?
