I find Funny Farm to be one of Chevy Chase's most underrated movies. Funny you mention the mail carrier in the movie... it's more the norm today than the exception.
We had a very reliable, personable mail carrier for a number of years. Every day, 11 a.m., our mail was delivered like clockwork. On several occasions the lady would notice that my car was home and hand-deliver packages that didn't fit in my mailbox to prevent me from having to go to the post office to pick it up. I always thanked her and made it a point to say hello to her anytime I saw her out and about at the local grocery, etc.
The mail carrier we have now is unpredictable. At least once per week I'm knocking on my neighbor's door to give her her mail that was placed in my mailbox by mistake. I have no idea if I'm even getting my mail anymore, or if it's being put in someone else's box. A lot of evenings my mail isn't delivered until 5 pm, if by then even. One day I get nothing, the next day it's jam-packed. I'm almost certain there are days when I have mail but it isn't delivered.
Another great demise courtesy of the mismanagement of Federal Government.
