raggmann54 Spuzz Curious, as I've been asked recently - What about no tip trim, just butt trim the irons to length?? What is the result with that???
Spuzz raggmann54 It depends on the shaft profile, but in general, a softer flex, and maybe grips that don't fit right. 😉
raggmann54 Spuzz Figured that about the softer flex, but didn't consider the grip fit. Have a "super senior" friend that wants me to do that with his 7-8-9 irons. I'll experiment with some "tomato stakes" I have to test the grip fit...thanks
raggmann54 colej Thanks, Have a set of Graphite Mitsubishi Fubuki Z 55 Hybrid/Iron Graphite Shafts uncut in senior flex he wants. He wants a "super senior" geezer flex - tried to talk him into a ladies flex shaft, but ego, even at 83, is strong in him, "No effin way"...Will probably go the Soft Step way - uses the 5-6-7-8-9 irons...he likes his wedges just the way they are...
azgreg Thread necro alert!!!! So, I'm getting ready to build a couple of wedges and I'm interested in trying the 8i wedge spinner trick. The shafts that will be going into the irons are FST 125 Pro tipped stiff. If I remember correctly that would mean I take the same shaft and tip it to 8i length in X flex. Do I have that right?
Eguller azgreg tip it to 8i length in X flex. That's the idea and I believe around that weight shaft. Cheap experiment.
Typhoon azgreg Greg, Google it on Golfwrx. Howard has your answer there. I believe you are right, go up a flex and use an 8 iron shaft.
scotts33 If any of you know what a S2S Wishon Hi-Flight wedge shaft is and have used them and liked them it's a non tipped "R" 110g - 115g steel shaft. Tom's manufacturer of them was Apollo. So, maybe that adds some validity and understanding.
Jelopster sdandrea1 That should be your signature. It would be if we had a signature option..... Now that I’ve got those sweet Yellow Top Flight XLs, mine’d be: “Anyone seen a yellow rock flight?”
Subsonic In that video that was posted of Rocco Mediate, I believe he talked about using a softer shaft in his 56 degree wedge.
azgreg Typhoon He had a big thread on it recently but I didn't see where he mentioned parallel shafts. The thread was locked before I could ask. I think he's tired of all the questions on the matter.
Typhoon azgreg Just Google it in general then… plenty of information out there. I never use parallel shafts but I would think it’s the same thing, tip trimmed for an 8 iron, one flex stronger. But Google it
Par4QC I'm old, so need some 'splainin done. Take an X flex shaft, soft step it 2-3 times, instead of using an S flex tipped normal, or hard stepping the S flex. What was gained, in other people's minds; there was nothing in mine?
sdandrea1 Par4QC What was gained, in other people's minds; there was nothing in mine? There's nothing in your mind? 😵💫
Luc_Van_Daele Par4QC Take an X flex shaft, soft step it 2-3 times, instead of using an S flex tipped normal That trick is originally used in taper tips that have no wedge shaft available; take a 7-8 shaft but one flex stiffer instead. On paralell tips it boils down to : instead of tip trimming 4" for a wedge; tip trim 2.5" for a 7-iron instead and add 1.5"extra tip trimming to go a flex stiffer. That 2.5+1.5" tip trimming is not like the normal recommended 4", it is Tiger approved; and that makes all the difference. 😂
