Somebody mentioned Mike Strantz much earlier in this thread. Mike and I worked at the same golf course when he was a high school kid. By 1979, he was a Turf Grass Management student at Michigan State, and got a summer
internship at Inverness. (BTW, he helped plant the famous "Hinkle Tree" there during the Open) Anyway, he
got our greenskeeper, the assistant pro and me out there to play before the Open.
I remember the rough was a bitch, and the greens were faster than hell, and felt lucky that I broke 90! As a
matter of fact Inverness just was awarded another US Open in 2045, when I'll be 100, LOL!!!
