I cut the cord over 5 years ago going to only premium internet service. Since I really needed a home phone for my home office I purchased an Ooma phone. It has been great. I don't use the Ooma premium package, just the basic service and pay my monthly taxes, about $4.00. For me the system works great and I retained my home phone line. There was a charge for this, but in my case it was worth the fee.
I also installed in my attic a higher end, about $100, antenna and replaced older cable lines with the latest at the time for $60 & $15 for fittings. My internet improved and I receive around 35 channels. Some we never watch so I programmed them off the remotes. However, my picture for our local stations was actually better than what I received via the cable service. I have never regretted my decision. There is a site on the internet where you will find all the stations you will receive with an antenna. I paid for a higher end antenna because it reached about 10 stations I would not have received in the local Louisville market. We have 5 TV's in the house. I did add a signal booster to my antenna line as a couple of stations my wife loved would occasionally have a marginal signal. Money well spent because it worked.
