Not sure you do not need to be steep into the ball angle of decent with shovels as I am a shallow picker from learning to play as a youngster on Wisconsin muni turf without irrigation in the late 50's early 60's. I am shallow and can play good shots with the Swing Science FC-One Plus irons that are as wide as anything you will see. It's more the amount of bounce in the iron design with sole width.
Swing Science FC-One Plus 5i 0 deg. bounce, 6i 1 deg. bounce, 7i 2 deg. bounce, 8i 3 deg. bounce, 9i 5 deg. bounce, PW 7 deg. bounce. Jeff Sheets design.
IMO the more bounce in your irons the more you need leading edge sole relief. Blunted or ground leading edges in general have more bounce in their design.
