I want to apologize to @azgreg. I re-thought what many would need especially as seniors to get good yardage gaps as we lose swing speed. For many like myself to play ball in air to x yardage a 6 degree loft gap is needed. Hence for a 6 deg. loft gap one would need 8 full swing clubs plus putter. Driver, 20 deg. fairway, 26 deg. fairway, 30 deg. hybrid or iron, 36 deg. iron, 42 deg. iron, 48 deg. wedge and 54 deg. wedge with putter for 9. I believe azgreg was at 10 so sorry about that azgreg! 😉

scotts33 Scott I believe you are right Sir. When I play a "FULL" bag I carry 10 clubs. This would be for a tournament, first rate course, or hob nobbing for business (D,3W, 4h,5,6,7,8,9,PW, Putter). My "MINIMALIST" and favorite playing is with 6 club bag (3W, 4h, 5,7,PW,Putter).

For me FULL is 10/11, Minimalist is 7/8, depending on the course.

I couldn't find the old thread somebody started a long time ago about playing with hickory shafts, etc., so
"Minimalist Golf" seems to suit.....Check out 1963 British Open champ Bob Charles. He just won the New Zealand Hickory Open.....at age 87!!!!

fatshot Very nice find. Sir Bob is 6'1" and a lefty (right handed) so those clubs are long and heavy. Some of the clubs were his Dad's. Looks to be about 6 to 7 clubs. 80 wins around the globe.

79 today with the 6-club bag. Honma XP-1 Driver, Cobra 5h, Cobra 7h (FrankenHybrid with HOF wood shaft), PING G10 9i, Cleveland 588 SW, Odyssey VLine Pro.

The FrankenHybrid and the 9i were the stars of the day as I had to invent a lot of shots with them inside 150 yards. Driver and putter were both on form today. I've cut the Honma back to 43.75" and it's actually a bit longer in performance.

I dry fit it with a split grip and kept trimming the butt until I got D1 at 39".

I thought you were talking about my FrankenHybrid build with the HOF wood shaft, sorry. I just got it to a manageable length with a reasonable SW. Poor reading comprehension 🤣

No, I cut the Honma shaft and put the grip back on. I don't know or care what the swingweight is. It works really well. I don't want to know.....😉

My minimalist bag is all I got now. Driver, 7 iron, 52,56,60 putter. Played 9 today , hit 8/9 greens in regulation amd shot -2.

The other day I had 3 drivers in my bag and still had only 12 clubs.

Heck I just put a chipper back in my bag. I may just play 3w and that. Ha.😁
