Hickorygolf59 I've been considering adding a LG smart driver to my LG collection. Thoughts on yours?

For me great driver has the gear effect that all good persimmon heads have and I can play it both ways draw or fade. Bob Estes was one of the last if not last PGA players to use persimmon 2001 and Elmore Just developed the OG ProBe head for him.

So I went out this morning and played 18. Walked and carried my bag, went down to 7 clubs in total. Driver, 4 hybrid, 6, 8, PW, SW and putter. Shot a 78, went 4 over on the last 3 holes otherwise played really well and didn’t miss having the extra clubs.

38 deg. but I adjusted mine a little up. What I don't like about it is it's little light needs more head weight.

Roger that. Hoping it was more lofted. Thinking of getting 42* Cleveland niblick to add to my 7 club travel bag. Will replace 9 iron for run ups 100 yds in. Appreciate your response!

Happy Fathers day out there....

Heat wave in FL means less frequent golf and fewer carried clubs to choose from. Played a most satisfactory round Friday with 12* driver, 5w, 7 iron, Cleveland niblick 42* and putter. Five clubs for a 40 on back nine on Sr. Tees.

BTW....Cleveland Niblick 42* EXCEEDED my expectations first time out. Go to club 100 yards in from fairway or rough, under trees,etc. Pin high on short 110 yd par 3 as well. Very accurate bump and runner with enough loft to stick (ish) with ball played forward. Replaced Vokey gap 50* which says alot.

Since the majority of us, use and carry anywhere from 6-9 clubs IMO we don't play ball in air to x amount of yards, we use more imagination to play yardage to hole/green with lower running shots. This assumes we have not many forced carry shots to green and running shots where playing ball at lower trajectories is possible. I am guessing this is the norm for the majority of courses over 75% on average.

Myself I tend to play 2-3 courses 90% of the time and don't need any distance gadget and I'd guess most of us Minimalist hackers are much the same? This allows imagination and finesse shots.

ie. Best shot this week, a low pitch and run from 120 yards with a 44 deg. 9i to a back right pin on large green #7 Yahara East Madison, WI muni course to a foot and a half. That made my week! 👍

Nope. Just look for the 150 or 100y marker (or the 200 🤣). At my age by now, I can mostly look at the pin and say, well, it's either the soft 6h or the 8i (or it's the soft 8i or the W), or it's a bump and run with the 6h, by just eyeballing the distance. I play mostly the same 3 or 4 tracks. I do have to play most of my approach shots in the air in VA........P.B

scotts33 I would always say that it's better to know the yardage. When I walk I just have my little GPS unit because why not?

I figure most younger golfers (under 50) must have a depth perception issue or rely on Smartphones with GPS for directions (can't read a map or it's left-right not north, south, east, west). It's a social-age difference.

I use a GPS (Golf Buddy Voice). I have to, I have poor depth perception. That's why I never became a proctologist.

No Range finders or GPS here. I rely on the MKI Mod O eye ball. How can you be minimalist and get the good feels if you are keeping your head in the scope all of the time?

Going out to play some minimalist golf in the morning.

My depth perception is very poor, can only focus one eye most of the time. I rely ons Neo Ghost GPS. Front, Center, Back seems to do okay for me.

For myself, I have never liked GPS or music boxes on golf course. Depend on eye and God given instincts like's been done for past 650 years of golf. Sure understand with someone having a physical challenge using one.

For me playing the same courses I know them like the back of my hand so I don't need a distance gadget is why I don't have the use for one. I find for golfers that rely on distance gadgets also carry more clubs have less ability to hit various shots and takes some of the old school golf skills that we have learned over the years. Golf becomes a point and shoot game rather than learning to play the ball down as in the UK.
