sdandrea1 I'm getting more and more attracted to this. Been scoring better with just 7. Tomorrow is driver, 7w, 6h, 9i, 52, 56, putter. So easy and quick to decide which club is needed for each shot. I'll be on a 4-man team playing 2 net best balls, plus.

Agreed it does help to play same courses to know your distances and your clubs well. It also helps if you are not a range finder guy and have a great imagination develops shots and ways to play the ball and golf.
sdandrea1 scotts33 Personal best today on The Meadows par 70 today. 7 clubs works! The XXIO driver and new putter had a lot to do with it.
scotts33 sdandrea1 I also like a 7 club set up. True half set. In a Jones Players Series bag 3 lbs and with 7 clubs, golf balls and water about 11 lbs. 8 clubs gets to the point of just being a bit heavy at times. The 6i and 8i I don't seem to hit much anyway.
Typhoon As soon as you buy the XXIO driver It’ll stop working for you.... don’t do it. It’s like a woman...as soon as you marry her....

Weirfan Unless I am in an event on my AM Tour , always have 15 clubs in the bag. My 4i and 3 hybid overlap at 210-220 so I drop one for events. Prefer the 4i but the 3hy can go a bit further and more versatile as I can hit it low or high and especially good out of the rough . played 9 with a couple of the young proshop ladies this week and only used 3hy, 7i, AW and putter and shot a 41 with 2 doubles 🙁
sdandrea1 Par4QC Awesome link Rex, thanks! This guy explains it so well and his philosophy matches my bag. Driver to get in position. FW metal or hybrid to advance the ball. 5 irons and a putter for scoring. Modern hickory golf!
Par4QC scotts33 I thought it interesting as to how he set the irons up, from different sets, for different feels.
Par4QC sdandrea1 The only drawback to this system is that it is dependent on nearly perfect(max) hits with each club. That said, I think I could do with only 7 clubs. But, I'm not walking, screw that. 😁

But, I'm not walking, screw that Gotta disagree. I've been immersed in this method for quite a while now and am nowhere near an excellent ball striker. I tend to club up on full shots and chip/putt my way to some of the best scores I've had this year. As long as my mishits stay in front of me, I can score.
azgreg sdandrea1 I'm with you Steve. Some of my best greens in regulation numbers have come with a short set.
azgreg Playing in a tournament this Sunday at Sun City Country Club. It's not a very long course so I've decided to take my short set, however I'm adding my 5w for some of those short par 4s.
