Can’t say for sure as we’ve only done it once before. But it came back pretty fast as I remember. My brother in law has done it several times to my mother in laws crepe myrtles and they came back quickly and full. Our neighbor did it to his and they came back fast as well.
Crepe myrtles are very resilient. If you look online there’s a lot of articles against cutting them back like this. But you get just as many saying that doing this is fine. You need to cut the branches on a bias though. Talk to someone in your area and see what they recommend.
The reason they call it crepe murder is you would never think once cut back that much they would survive. But they do.
