We’ve had a salt pool for 17 years. We’re only on our second pump motor. We have an Aqua Rite Salt system. Had to replace the salt cell and circuit board once as well.
I’ve never had a problem like that, but I do use a sequestering product (no phosphates) for mineral control. It helps prevent scale buildup on pool equipment and extend the salt cell life as well.
Years ago I did have a problem with mustard / yellow algae though. Until I cracked the code on that one. I want to keep my ratio of chlorine to stabilizer from going below 7.5%. I round off to 8% to keep the math easier. Lol
On salt pools they want you to keep your cyanuric acid between 80-100 percent. But I find 60 percent works fine as long as I keep my chlorine at 5% (8% X 60 curanuric acid = 4.8 (chlorine).
For those who are unfamiliar with salt pools the salt level is similar to the salinity of a tear in your eyes. Salt pools require more muriatic acid though to keep the Ph levels from getting too high. But I find if I keep my Ph level at 7.8 I’m golden.
Here’s the sequestering product I use to prevent scale buildup (important to use one with no phosphates like this one). No need to add more phosphates to your pool. Reducing high phosphate levels is a nightmare. Been there, done that. No more though. Lol
