darpar Had to to buy a new fridge as our fairly new GE Profile started blowing hot air,not cold.
Tried to fix it by rebooting it and cleaning the condenser etc.....NADA!
We had a GE Profile counter depth french door fridge that gave us nothing but problems. The coil in the back of the freezer would build up ice which would then stop the fan from spinning (it built up enough to touch the blades of the fan) and once that started, we knew the cooling was going to stop shortly after. The first fridge, we didn't know what was going on and GE ended up repairing it a few times and then because it would not cool properly for so long, the condenser (compressor?) ended up going out, so they tried to replace it and in the process, the tech broke a tube that could not be fixed, so they had to get us a replacement.
The new one was put-of-spec on width so I fought to get an extended warranty for free, which saved us. It had the same issue and they came out and massaged the copper tube going into the compressor/condenser and said that would fix it. Then they came out and replaced the compressor/condensor. Then they came out and steamed the coils to remove the ice and updated all the firmware for the 3 computers inside. Then they came out and used a heat gun and ended up replacing the fan and control board for the fan. Then they finally gave in and we got a different model and style completely.
So now we have a side-by-side GE Profile that my wife is much happier with except it is noisy when it is going through some cycle (defrost maybe?) and bugs the heck out of us. It subsides, but starts at random times, sometimes when we have people over, which is annoying. The thing needs logic to drive when it does that, like the middle of the night during the time it never gets opened for 9+ hours.
