Having a diamond pinkie ring made for me.
Back story. Wife’s diamond in her engagement ring came out of the setting and was lost over a year ago. Ended up buying a new diamond using the same ring with new prongs.
Bought a Lab Grown diamond. Got a bigger and better stone for ~ 1/4 of the price of a natural diamond. Both Lab and Natural are 100 percent carbon. Just one takes millions of years in the earth to create and one takes weeks in a lab. Indistinguishable.
Using the analogy of making ice. Your refrigerator (man made) can make ice and so can Mother Nature. Both are 100 percent frozen H2O.
Anyway. Last week my wife sends me a picture of a loose diamond she found on the floor below her desk in her office at work. She felt it hit her foot while putting on her sweater. She was wearing sandals.
We couldn’t understand how it all of a sudden dropped on her foot. She has the sweater that she keeps in her office at work to wear when it gets cool. So the diamond must’ve got caught in the sweater after coming loose in the setting.
Here’s the kicker. She’s brought the sweater home to wash with the diamond stuck in it more than once. Finally loosened up enough to fall out of the sweater.
I gave my pinkie diamond ring I wore for years that was my grandmothers diamond to my niece years ago when she got married.
So we went down to our local jewelers to get a new diamond pinkie ring made for me. Gold prices are thru the roof. Over $3300 dollars an ounce. Bought most of our gold jewelry when it was ~ $300 dollars an ounce.
He asked if we had any 14k gold jewelry that he could melt to make the setting. Said he needed ~ 10 grams to make the ring. Went thru some of my wife’s jewelry and found 13 grams of 14k gold jewelry that she doesn't wear anymore.
Said he’d use all of it to make the solid 14k gold ring. So, happy early 70th (June) birthday to me. Should be done in ~ 3 weeks. I picked a setting out of a catalog and they do a CAD to copy the design and go from there.
Back, back story. We upgraded her first diamond to this diamond back in 1986 at DeScenza jewelers in the jewelers building in Boston. Bought myself a diamond ring that I still wear as well at the same time.
We were on strike from AT&T at the time. Good a time as any to buy a couple of diamond rings. lol. So now I’ll be wearing two diamond rings, again.😎
