Last time I was in a local store the 120 proof stuff was all about $80/bottle and up.

Which one would be the easier drinking? I’m not a huge fan of liquor but it would be nice to smoke a cigar and sip on something.

Yeees, I do drink'm...It's an acquired thing. Not to drink and get buzzed, more to drink for taste and feel.

There's more to good bourbon than burn. Once your pallet adjusts, there are many flavors that appear. And to be honest, higher proof can expose those easier.

I've had higher proof pours go down easier than store brand low proofs...

BTW, went back and they were out...

CallMeAl went to Costco yesterday and they had no Kirkland bourbon. CT Costcos rarely get anything good like in other states.

The Small Batch is the easiest for beginners. I personally like the BIB.

The Single Barrel more for someone who's accustom to higher proof bourbon.

If you're new to the bourbon game, start with a known bottle from a known distillery. Don't start with a store brand.

Do you plan to drink it neat or mix it?

Here are a couple suggestions...

Woodfords Reserve- Great bourbon for those getting into the game. Smooth and Approachable.

Maker's 46- An easy sipper that's available everywhere.

Weller Special Reserve (Green Label) - A starwalt of bourbon. Smooth and Flavorful.

Benchmark Full Proof or Single Barrel- Same mashbill as Weller, but at a better price. A good alternative.

Ben Holliday Soft Red Wheat-From My Home State. One that'll stand up easily to the others mentioned. Plus it's age stated.

CallMeAl I concur with that list. I’m particularly fond of the Ben Holliday. Evan Williams Bottled in Bond is another good inexpensive bourbon.

CallMeAl Woodfords Reserve- Great bourbon for those getting into the game. Smooth and Approachable.

I had a bud at our marina who was an Early Times drinker. To make a long story short he got some shots of Woodford Reserve from a salesman at the casino bar and bragged on how good it was. A few weeks later I was sitting at the bar at my local watering hole and the the bartender was opening up a new bottle of Woodford. She gave me the empty bottle, box, tassel and carefully pealed off the seal and gave me the cork. I went to the drug store and got a bottle of Woodford and compared the color to other bottles on the shelf. A cheap bottle of Yellowstone was a perfect match. I poured it into the Woodford bottle and carefully sealed it back up to look like a new bottle. We gave it to him for his retirement. He left it on his houseboat bar and break it out in the evening for a few drinks. He would sip on it, smile and say how good it was. He did that most of the summer. We snickered all summer. As he finally got down to the bottom we told him what we had done. Someone else also gave him a real bottom of Woodford that he hadn't opened yet. He opened it and compared and "said" could then the taste difference. 🤣
