Florida does have Net Metering. However, not being at 100% offset I’m not sure how much we’ll benefit from that. My guess is there may be times where we’re able to bank some credits.
Net metering is a positive. California got rid of net metering. So no guarantee it’ll be around forever. Florida does have a couple of small incentives. No tax on solar and your property taxes (house) will not be assessed at a higher value.
Our energy company has said that they will start charging a fee for being connected to the grip. I think I read where it will be $30.00. They’re calling it a ‘grid maintenance’ fee.
We’re also looking to making our home more energy efficient. May add some baffles to the soffit vents, new weather seals and sweeps on the doors etc. Also looking into a solar fan.
We added a couple more ridge vents, but have read conflicting opinions on adding a fan. The guy who did my solar site assessment thinks they’re great. He recommended a 45 watt placed a couple feet off the ridge vent.
But I’ve read where adding a fan on your roof can have the vents and fan working against each other. Our attic gets hot in the summer. Something I can do is make sure the blown in insulation isn’t obstructing the soffit vents. Every little bit helps I suppose.
