1 Gram Tip Weight?

Maybe I am too crazy...like Bryson...but I'd like to get my hands on a 1 gram tip weight for my SL iron heads to be closer in heft. Rather not use lead tape. Graphite shafts so can't do the lead powder option.

I see that this international seller has something but I'd rather go more local if possible.

At times in the past, I have done what you did.....cut the weight into two pieces....but then epoxied just the skinny part into the hole in the shaft. Of course I'd weighed both pieces to make sure which one weighed what I wanted it to weigh. Good luck.

If you have a sander or a file, u could easily trim down the fat part of the weight.

Can you use side cutters and just trim down a heavier tip weight? That's what I would do if I felt the need.
I have a ram rod and corks for putting tungsten powder down graphites. I rarely do it, and I don't know if those things are still sold.

There doesn't seem to be much extra to trim away, but I might have to go that route. I don't think it'll remove too much weight, as it is a short stem with wider base.

For this head, it is a Cobra F7 One (from Hurricane).

but I pulled out random GS catalog from my stash I have on hand (turned out to be 2007) and don't see a 1 gram. These in the listing look suspiciously like my 2 gram GS ones. I've reached out to the seller to see if they have any info.

Yep, I've bought those lead weights from China, You can just use large scissors and trim off the neck, it is soft.

I'd do what Don suggest trim away excess weight. We assume you are using a good gram scale so removing enough and getting dead nuts 1g should be no issue. Adding playing length (1/4" length of tip weight) will add swing weight.

I am using the appropriate scale, but below is the result. Pic is not great quality but you can get an idea. The one on the left is a cut-down 3 g weight which now still weighs in at 1.8 grams. The one on the right is an untouched 2 g.

So I still don't see getting the additional 0.8 grams from the stem as it seems that the bases are similar in weight, with the longer stem accounting for the additional weight.

Trim away the stem on the 2g and you should be close to 1g and if more is needed hold tip weight in good pliers lock down and sand on your 42" belt sander. Do not use an aggressive belt. Weigh as you sand off material.

Finally someone who understands me!

Here's what I ended up with at 0.9 grams...kind of similar to what Chad had in mind. I guess I was just a bit concerned not having a stem to insert into the shaft.

It is a little uneven but I intend to orient that downward into the hosel with the flatter side flush to the shaft tip.

Why not just find something of a spacer and put at the bottom of the hosel.....should be able to fashion something out of metal; or how about a wooden dowel....not sure how much they weigh, but I've heard of some geezers doweling their irons for better "feel". Personally I'd use lead tape and be done with it. You can't see it in the playing position!

I drill the hole in the weight to a larger size and weigh it again. If it is still heavier than what I want I use the next larger size bit and drill it again until the correct weight is reached. There is normally differences in the weights of each club head compared to their specifications so I weigh them in advance to find the one most out of spec. Then I can add weight to the lighter heads while using the heaviest out of spec head as the one to start the progressions up or down for properly spaced club head weights. On a new build I would probably weigh all the shafts and use the lighter ones for the longer clubs and the heaviest in the wedges. I've got plenty of time so why not take my time to get them as close to spec as possible!

Did you factor in the weight of the epoxy and shafting beads and ferrule? It’s all for nothing if you aren’t paying attention to the details.
