Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water....
Bryson, you had me, bro. You really did, you rascal you. When you came out and said what you said, talking about how much you respected your fellow players on tour, how slow play has been an issue at all levels of the game for a long time and how you really wanted to be part of the solution and no longer part of the problem, talking about how it's your responsibility to make the sport more enjoyable for everyone at every level... you really had me. Nothing more to see here, folks, move along.
And then you just went and shat the bed. You couldn't leave well enough alone. You grabbed that shovel after a few days rest and you got right back to digging. I mean, it would be one thing if you had posted this video on social media after learning your dog died, or perhaps enjoying one too many adult beverages and feeling as though the world is conspiring to get you out of golf and into the 200 meter sprint in the 2020 Summer Olympics. But I don't think these things are influencing your reaction.
"I'm out here, doing the right thing, having a great time with the pro-am guys, killing it," DeChambeau said. "And honestly, we're on these guys' asses all the time. Last week I played under time par, this week we'll do the same thing."
Wow. That is what I call real progress! You're on these 20-handicappers asses in the pro-am! I bet they're looking over their shoulders and saying, "Uh oh, boys... Speed Demon DeChambeua is right on our heels, we better get some giddy up in our step!"
"Y'all can say whatever you want, but we're having a f---ing awesome time," DeChambeau said. "So screw all y'all haters, no big deal. I still love you all, even though you hate me."
Well done, dude. Especially that "screw y'all" part. That should go over real well in Camp Ponte Vedra's marketing department. That'll also go a long way convincing these "haters" to come to their senses and realize that you are sincere about trying to improve your pace and becoming part of the solution, making the game more enjoyable for all levels with the example you set.
And what's with this "hate" stuff? Hyperbole, much? Dude, most golf fans don't hate anybody. They hate that the televised product of American golf has overtaken the Lawrence Welk show reruns in the who gives a f**k department.
