I have tried numerous times over the years to play graphites in my irons. To me they always just felt "dead." Yes, I have tried Prosoft inserts too and don't like them. Anywho, with arthritic thumbs and age 69 I wanted to try something lighter than the FST 115 steel I have been playing for years. After reading several threads I saw several people recommend the UST Recoil graphites. Although not cheap I decided to get a set and opted for the Recoil 760 F2 which is a 65g senior flex. I tip trimmed them per UST's chart and butt trimmed them to my usual 2" overlength. I installed them into my oldest set of irons which are some Acer Undercut Soles which are some old school lofted shovels similar to the original Big Berthas.
This was only my third time out this year and I did have a healing but stiff back so my swing wasn't the greatest. As I test swung them the feel was very nice and didn't have the "too light" feel I have experienced with others. As I played the round I really liked the feel of the shafts. This was the closest feel similar to steel I have experienced with a graphite. So, swing weight good and feel at impact great. What I didn't like was the distance. These were supposed to increase distance not lose distance. I was hitting these one to two clubs shorter. One par three is usually a PW to the center of the green. I put a good swing on it on that hole and the ball hits the water 20 yards short of the green. I reloaded and put a harder swing on it and it barely made it over the water. So, at this point I am a bit dissatisfied with the results. Could be my swing, could be the shafts or a combo of both. I can't believe there was that much diff in the distance. I was having issues with the high offset of the heads so I might pull them and put them in some Wishon 780ti's I was going to reshaft anywho.
Me puzzled. 🤓
