candukid Most shots will end up short and right. Typical iron flight is a high fade. I never hook an iron. Pull but never hook.
Fairways are more stable with a straight or fade.
Pretty typical of an OTT swing (one I have intimate experience with) . The high fade is my preferable ball flight. While it doesnt provide the roll out and distance of a draw , it offers the best control and IMO control in golf is key.
Ideally, any time you can eliminate one side of the golf course the game and scoring improves immeasurabley. With the OTT swing, at least for me, issue becomes with those pulls left that sneak in, typically caused by closing the clubface on that out to in path. also if the high fade is really a big slice that can create issues.
I have accepted the fact that with my age and body type ( barrel chest and less flexibility with age) that my swing will have a bitbf an OTT move, so i just play it.
i use 3 different set ups depending on the shot shape and trajectory I am looking for.
1. Open the stance, play the ball forward , aim left edge and play the high fade. This is the most consistent and eliminates left 99% , very predictable
2. Flare the front foot open a bit less than above , but enough to help me clear , keeping ball at bottom of arc and play a straight to baby fade. This works as well but the left side will come into play once in a while
3. Close my stance , play ball back of normal, aim down right , hit hard against the left side and play a OTT pull , pull draw. This is very effective and usually provides the best distance and allows a straight to r-l shot. Use it a fair bit with driver and with irons in windy conditions when i want to hit a lower trap shot. Miss will be a push.
Yes they are bandaids but for my OTT swing they all have proven effective and work.
