In terms of club quality, I would imagine that these clubs will be good enough for a newbie who doesn't know any better in terms of performance. As long as you have a decent swing, you will get decent results. Cosmetically, the black looks good and will likely hide any inconsistencies if there are any from manufacturing tolerances from an aesthetics point of view. Likely the head weights and lofts may not be as advertised but this likely won't be a big deal either, especially since the gaps between the clubs are bigger than a standard set. These clubs will likely be good enough as a starter set for someone who doesn't golf too much and having a less than full set will force the golfer to hit partial shots more often than if you had a full 14 club set, which will be good for learning and overall improvement in ones game but may have a negative effect on the scorecard (at least in the beginning). As well, if you you are not a fast or strong swinger then the "proprietary" graphite should be adequate. Essentially, the clubs should be decent but likely a big chunk of the $600+ you paid was for looks (everything being black and looking sharp) and for the good customer service you received.
