johnnydoom Perhaps that is so. I think it would be tough on an official when people say "hey wait a minute, I didn't see or hear Kuchar concede so why was the hole halved?". It would be rather awkward for the official to say well I didn't hear or see it either, but Kuchar told me it was ok after the hole was completed. It would stand, but I doubt there would be any less, and likely much more consternation over it. The integrity of the official would be dragged into it as well.
Maybe. But again, the official isn't going to insert himself into it unless one of the players asks him to like Kuchar did. It's a big deal only because Kuchar made it an issue by asking the official. Also, they said it's hard to believe Kuchar didn't know the rule when he asked.
Interestingly listening to the Paulson's (Glen and Dennis) show this afternoon they feel the same way. Sergio screwed up, but Kuchar made it worse. Only they take the names out of it and use Player A and Player B. So, basically Player A screwed up by missing a raked 6 inch putt and Player B made it worse by making it an issue.
Sergio gets no benefit because of his past behavior which is understandable. Also, they said if any player in a friendly game at their home course pulled what Kuchar did no one would ever play with him again.
I'm beginning to think Kuchar isn't that self aware. In the caddie debacle he was technically correct, but couldn't see how public opinion would see it differently than he did.
And with this it's very similar in that technically he's correct, but he made it worse by making it an issue.
