I dealt with plantar fasciitis for a long, long time. It was extremely painful, leaving me hobbling around after even the most routine of tasks that required walking for more than 30 minutes. I have no doubt that part of my right hip problem stems from all of the years of favoring one side when I'd hobble around.
I tried everything. I spent $500 on fitted orthotic inserts, which didn't work. I had two steroid injections, which didn't help alleviate an ounce of the pain. And those shots were extremely painful, I might add. Then I tried electro pulse therapy, which is designed to cause trauma to the nerves around the heel/tendon so that they heal and regenerate. That didn't help. I tried copper magnets, which didn't work.
Finally, decided to have a small surgical procedure done where the doctor goes into the side of the heel, snips a small section of the tendon to make it more stretchy/pliable. The medical term used is called "releasing the tendon."
Not sure if it helped or not, as I was required to limit my activity for 3-4 weeks for the incision to heal properly. So the limited activity might've been the biggest factor, as immediately thereafter I finally had very little discomfort. But within a month or so of normal activity/golf - it was back to the same old same old.
I've not dealt with it now for 3-4 years, but then again I've not played much golf the past two seasons. I know my achilles tendon is tight, in both legs... did stretching, etc.. nothing seemed to help when my activity level was elevated.
It got to the point where I honestly considered contacting the DMV to see if I qualified for a handicap placard. I'd gotten so accustomed to the pain that I just accepted it, because the only other recourse was to simply have my foot amputated. I'd tried everything else and nothing worked.
I finally stopped playing golf every day to reduce the strain and stress on it, that was the only way I could manage it.
Plantar Fasciitis sucks!
