Gorge is 56 degrees instead of 57.5, and modern spaced grooves. Shaft is DG300 Spinner vs ZZ Lite. I can't tell any diff in performance tho. I have an old Eye 2 in VA.

No it's an Accra FX 360. I actually wouldn't mind trying something else this year. I got fitted about 3 years ago for the Accra in the driver and Oban Devotion 7 in 3 wood and while I love the Oban, I'm "meh" about the Accra.

2019 bag under construction so no new photos as of yet. The TM 790 irons never made it into the bag last season. I just could not get any feel with the Modus 105s shafts. As a result, those trusty G25 irons lasted yet another season.

First demo day was very interesting. In the running thus far will be the PING G410 and TM 790 w/Nippon 950GH.

I don’t expect any changes at the top (Taylor Made M4 driver thru hybrids) and bottom (Cleveland wedges and Seemore si5 putter) of the bag but I do expect to put new irons including gap wedge in play. That stated, Callaway Epic Flash Sub Zero and Cobra F9 drivers did peek my interest at that first demo.

New bag is in place as I grabbed an Under Armour (Made by Sun Mountain) blue/gray. Also new for 2019 is a Precision Pro NX7 w/slope and vibration tech rangefinder.

I was looking at that same setup late last year. In hitting on the launch monitor I actually liked them better than my Apex Pros mainly because at address they look a little larger. I was getting some extra long hits at times though. Partly my inconsistent swing I'm sure, but some huge 6 irons here and there. The fitter said it was the 2 piece design and he pretty much talked me out of them. Shaft seemed nice although we stuck a backweight in, but I have that with my Recoil 110 shafts too.

Odd that u have no feel for the p790/ modus 105 yet u like the p790/ 950 Gh. The 950 is softer, maybe that's why. I hit a guys p790 with he ctaper lite stiff last night on our GC2. That shaft is comparable to my ping ie1/modus 105 stiff. I hit no clubs nearly identical in every aspect. Never seen 2 irons that close before. I was expecting another 10-15 yards past my ie1 irons but nope.

Typhoon Did you think the Modus felt better than the C taper lite? I was told it would, but I didn't think it felt better; just different. I think I have gotten spoiled playing graphite for a few years now.

I don’t get it as well. I play my g25 with dg xp s300 so maybe I should have just put the Modus in the bag and not gone back and fourth.

The spring weather was horrible last year. In a nut shell, there was no early play to adjust to new stuff. My first real rounds were in May and I had a May golf trip. No way I was putting new irons in the bag at that time. I didn’t want to deal with a “learning curve”. I hope to have something in place by the end of April. Looks like I’ll be doing an outdoor fitting prior to a demo day on 4/20.

What made the decision to move on from the Modus was that I would go to a demo day and nearly every other c,ubhead/shaft combo I tried, I had no issues feeling the club.

As a matter of fact, nearly any head with an xp95 or 105 seems to work right out of the gate but I tend to overdraw the xp95.

I really couldn't tell because those p790 heads have such a different feel than the 431 stainless steel Pings. When I've hit the ctaper lite in the Taylormade P770 it's a better comparison and the modus feels better. Feels smoother and more lively.

Couple things...
The same shaft will be different in each head. The G25 head with its weighting will be different than the Apex pro which is forged also. Like I was saying to Kcee, the ctaper lite feels different in the p790 than the p770 when I've hit them.

Have you tried a little lead tape on the p790 to get some head feel?

Outdoor fittings are the best bet. Irons that seem clicky indoors sound too clicky because u are inside. Outside its a whole new ballgame. I'm looking forward to hitting the Ping I500 outside off the grass at out big 3 day demo in April.

When I compared the 790 w/950GH to the g410, both were very high and the 410 had more right to left ball flight than 790.

Early Compares (demo day, 50*, no data to compare)

PING G410 = Less expensive. More durable finish (once the hydro pearl wears off) compared to most. Great company as I have had g25 in the bag since release. Slightly more right to left ball flight (not necessarily a good thing).

TaylorMade 790 w/950gh = More expensive (not a positive but not a deal breaker). Poor previous self fit experience w790 head in Modus shaft (not a positive but not a deal breaker as I wasn’t fit and I blame the shaft as being a poor fit). Finish, how do these heads hold up over time? I like my stuff to maintain a good appearance. I didn’t hit my first set enough to know. I currently have TM woods/driver in the bag.

Although those are the front runners, I will consider others:

Callaway Apex CF19 = I really liked the Rogue Pro from last year. I hit both my sons CF16 w/xp95 and my brother in laws CF16 w/Kbs just fine. That stated, I tried CF16 w/Steelfiber 110 shafts and had a similar experience to the790 w/Modus shafts. Ball flight w/CF19 was low compared to g410 and 790/950gh.

Cobra Forged Tec = I hit them in black w/black shaft. Extremely nice looking but all black durability is a question. I don’t know if it was the black finish but these seemed like they had a ton of offset. Even compared to my g25. Ball flight was straight to a right to left ball flight. Ball flight was low compared to g410 and 790/950gh.

Whom else to try ????
