Prosoft shaft inserts

Just curious...has anyone tried installing them by just shoving them in with a dowel rod, or something similar? Just wondering how needed the install kit act...

Another thing about moisture being in the shaft; how did it get there? When I grip, I leave 1" over the end of the shaft. Twist it, stuff it into the shaft. Stops the solvent from going in and (I'd think) stop any air/moisture from getting in. Then again....I'm me.😁

If you actually keep your clubs longer than me, just wear and tear and time can let moisture get inside a shaft. Grip tape isn't permanent. It probably takes years for a shaft to rust.

Arnie I DID NOT FINISH THE POST! The reasons given to me by Value Golf for no longer carrying ProSoft Inserts are "the product is not in a retail pretty package" and the tool is "not professional looking". Thus his business decision to make a "new tool" with a nice looking handle. The tool used to install ProSoft Inserts has several important features - the handle shape indicates the position of the tool tip, the spacer holds the insert in position and is held by the disc when the tool is withdrawn. The new distributor for Pro Soft Inserts and the installation tool is Golf Works

Par4QC The moisture in the shaft gets there because there is moisture in the air when you gripped the club. covering the shaft butt with grip tape won't allow ths moisture to escape. When cutting off old grips you can often see rust on the very end of the shaft. Some moisture enters a shaft through the grip vent hole if you play in the rain. Piercing the tape you twisted over the shaft butt vents the shaft!

Provisional I would really like to try these. Let me know how many you've got. Going to graphite would be super expensive. These are worth a shot for a 30 year old with a bum thumb.

I'll go out to the shop today if I can,
To see what I have left. I've put them in x100 -TM 300 irons, Rifle -Srixon 508s, & , DG 300s-Mizzy MP 57s . I thought that they helped but still switched to graphite.

I'd just buy the inserts and the tool myself...it's not a big investment vs the aggravation of finding some DIY method.

I sometimes think of putting them in my modus shafts when I regrip them but they feel fine now. If I every use my Taki PX satins I would definately put them in there

Okay, so maybe it's a bit late in this thread to ask this question, but do these things actually do anything? I don't feel much vibration when I hit irons. Maybe I just don't have the hand issues others have.

Then you don't need these. They do not provide any performance enhancement. They reduce vibration for people who have health issues that can be aggravated by vibration.

I use them and believe they help. I had elbow issues with my previous set which didn't have the inserts, but the SLDR with C Taper 120 I've used for 3 seasons now have the inserts and I've had no problems. Funny this thread came up, as I'm about ready to try some M3 irons so I just bought some inserts from Value Golf. Like Landon said, the backer rod is just too hard to work with. I wrapped it in duct tape which seemed to help, I've seen posts on golfwrx where guys talk about greasing it with a little soap or vegetable oil. Maybe some Bramptons grip solvent? Anyway, the prosoft go in easy and are relatively cheap so I just decided to go that route.

They will definitely help particularly if you are a stronger player and not ready for old man graphite shafts in the irons. Bigger grips and a softer grip material will also help with absorption of vibtarion. clubhead design with more mass behind the contact area will also help . I have arthritis in both thumb joints. Last spring I bought some Bionic Men's ReliefGrip Golf Gloves. I got both the right and left and they really help. Those and jumbo Winn grips help with grip and dampening.

Thinking back on my struggling with tendon issues and steel shafts , my love affair with a set of TM 300s had x100 soft stepped 1x with Sensicores.
In my later 60s didn't need x100 by any stretch but they played pretty good anyway . Finally moved on to graphite r flex Raptues but still fond memories of my first nice forged irons. Still have my MP 57s I reshafed with Matrix as attempt to relive previous life.😁. Prosofts better ,same as Sensicores?? Old thread relived .

I played TT DGS 300 Sensicores for many years because of a hand injury. Years later I tried prosofts. My experience was that the Sensicores dampened vibration but maintained the feel of the shaft. The Prosofts dampened vibration but deadened the feel of the shaft. This was my observation. YMMV. I seem to be one of the few who don't care for them. They are inexpensive and easy to install so worth a try if you have health issues with steel shafts.

the ProSoft material is dual density - open celI interior (for vibration dampening) and closed cell exterior (to prevent holding moisture against the shaft wall).
The "backer rod you can purchase at Home Depot or Lowes is a closed cell material which is much denser and it won't compress tgiven to meo install in a shaft. If you get this in a smaller diameter to fit a shaft it won't work well to dampen vibration. Value Golf has decided to sell something other than ProSoft Inserts with the reasons

Rickochet Sorry I don't "blow smoke" the color of the ProSoft insert material does vary from time to time and as it comes to me on a spool of 2500 feet sometimes toward the middle to end of the spool the material gets compressed and it flattens the material. The compressing is prevented with the new larger spools.
