LBlack14 Rickochet Sometimes you have to squeeze the insert a bit where it goes into the butt as you push it in with the other hand. Rick, I use prosoft inserts and have the tool as well. I could NOT get backer rod to go into an iron shaft. I didn't spend a bunch of time f-ing with it being the PS inserts are very affordable.

The backer rod I got from Lowes is the exact size and color as the Prosoft inserts I have. I haven't used or purchased Prosofts in many years. Perhaps the ones I have are different than the ones Aaron sells now. I can't remember if the last batch I got were from VG or MyOstrich. https://www.lowes.com/pd/M-D-1-2-in-x-20-ft-Gray-Polyethylene-Window-Weatherstrip/1091865
Rickochet sdandrea1 I think a set of 8 inserts is about $4. They slide right in. They also install easier in the butt end of the shaft, not the tip. ๐
Rickochet sdandrea1 1/2" is too small, too loose in the shaft at the point where they're supposed to sit. I thought they were 1/2" but I guess I was wrong. I don't have any to measure. Measure your BR to make sure it is actually 5/8".
sdandrea1 I think the prosofts are 9/16" closed cell. I'm not sure but I know they slide in EZ and fit snug.
sdandrea1 I'll measure what ProSofts I have left when I get home. I'll ship them to whoever wants them for shipping cost......should be only a few bucks.
Sparky Steve, I'll take them if nobody has claimed them. I just went back to steel after 10 years in graphite, so I could use them.
sdandrea1 Sparky They're yours Sparky. Email me at dandreasteve@gmail.com with your info. We get back from vaca on Sunday. I'll ship them out Monday. I think I have 10 left. I'll ship whatever I have to ya.
Sparky sdandrea1 Thanks Steve, will do. My Cox e-mail seems to be out of service right now for maintenance, so I'll e-mail you tonight.
Rickochet sdandrea1 Cox cable sucks. (see what I did there?) We're stuck with them in VA. Cox stuckers?
cpanther1995 I havenโt done it in a while, but I remember 1/2 being too large, isnโt there a 3/8? I found a size I had to twist in at first and then push in. Thatโs the backer rod in my irons now.
Par4QC Everyone here worried about a bit of moisture in the shaft, when we know damn good and well, no one here uses those irons for more than 8 days without reshafting. ๐
Par4QC sdandrea1 Another thing about moisture being in the shaft; how did it get there? When I grip, I leave 1" over the end of the shaft. Twist it, stuff it into the shaft. Stops the solvent from going in and (I'd think) stop any air/moisture from getting in. Then again....I'm me.๐
