Well I did both 23 and Ancestry. Results were close though Ancestry went a bit deeper, but that didn't have any significant impact on the percentages (less than a 1 percent).
It did I'd a number of 3rd cousins, interestingly I recognized the names that I hadn't heard of since the mid 50s when we moved.
Call yourself what you, but IMHO an American is just that, maybe it has roots back to somewhere else, but I believe reference to individuals as American's is a uniter, being more descriptive is a way to divide.
For example, my lines on one side traces back to Robert Bruce in Scotland, though I think it is neat our family (loose connection after 600 years) castle still stands I don't call myself a Scottish American. Visited a number of times and it even has a 6 hole golf course, not open to play.
Maybe I got it wrong but born American is an American, history only says what was in the past, I live in today and tomorrow.
