No different than anything else in life.
Some people buy expensive filet minion, some cheap flank steak
Some drink $30 wine, some $10
Some buy a $20,000 GM others a $75,000 BMW
Some a $50 timex, some spend many $1,000's on a Tag or Rolex
Had a similar discussion regarding green fees in Phoenx , lots of Canadians go there in winter drop $300+ US on a single green fee and dont bat an eye. I play those courses for $50-$80 and could never justify the higher fee regardless even that i could afford to pay it.
With drivers, there is nothing new ( or rarely is) and exciting that makes it necessary to absolutely buy one so why not wait a bit. Once in a while something like the g400 comes along but its a rarity and fit is probably more important to performance anyway.
