Many Canadians care what happens in the USA because we are so closely tied to your Country , not only geographically but in terms of commerce , trade etc. We travel to the US for business or pleasure have friends who work there, live there . You are the dog and often we are the proverbial tail.
I agree that Canadians are nice people, but so are American. I've traveled to the US well over 100 x and have dozens and dozens of US friends , just hooked up for golf with DC300 this week, and they are all equally nice people.
Canada does find itself up on all the lists of friendliest people in the world, we are certainly that.We are also perhaps the most polite nation on the planet. This statement describes us well "Canadians are so polite, in fact, that if they bump into a tree, they’ll apologize. "
The US has 10x the population of Canada, more people means more bad guys , perhaps not as a %age, but in sheer numbers. More bad guys means more negative news stories ( do we ever hear much in the way of good news stories?)
Different histories with different backgrounds and perspectives that shape opinions.
We don't have to like or dislike a happening or political figure to like a country and I Love the USA and my friends there and always will.
