Much in the same way that the NBA has lost me as a fan over the years, so too has MLB. And I loved following MLB growing up. My favorite team was the Reds... names like Sparky Anderson, Pete Rose (of course), Dave Concepcion, George Foster, Ray Knight, Johnny Bench, Ken Griffey Sr, Cesar Geronimo.... The Big Red Machine. That was such a great era to grow up in following MLB.
It wasn't just about how many different pitchers a manager could throw in a lineup for 9 innings. Back long before terms like "analytics" and "infield shift" took over.
But I still follow the playoffs, in both the NBA and MLB. But they're both a far different game from what I recall. As is NCAA hoops, as is the NFL.
I guess I'm just an old fart who misses watching guys like George Foster, Wes Unseld, Reggie White, Jack 'Goose' Givens, etc. who meant so much more to their sport to the fans who followed, than the players seem to mean to their respective sports today.
Sports just seemed so much more inviting, more exciting, back in the day.
Which is what you'd expect an old fart to say. lol
But the BoSox this season was an epic team, one of the greatest. Would've liked to have seen it go 6-7 games, but I wasn't expecting it.
