The only reason to want irons that fly longer is if you really want to hit irons from 225+ and maybe he does. Your set has to be stronger lofts at the top to get the bigger distances from the 3-5 irons. Personally, I’m not going to carry anything beyond a 5 anyway, so why not have more options in the scoring range?
I’d be happy to hit my “old” yardages again to be honest. When an 8 iron was my 150-155 yard club and it worked down from there, I had much easier full shots to play because there was still the 9, PW, GW, SW left to get to the hole. Now a PW flies 150, so I have to either add more wedges or be more creative with what I have. That makes it harder to me. News flash, but scoring is rarely done from 200+
