sdandrea1 John, It's not your imagination. The younger Solheim sold out. Chinese foundries, shorter product cycles, distance-driven designs........and the end-all........FERRULES! 😱 I guess he had to in response to competition, but I miss the old PING.
Sneakylong sdandrea1 I like the ferrules. Had two G15 irons break right where the hosel and graphite shaft meet. With the G and now the G400 irons with ferrules have yet to break one. I realize it's anecdotal and I know people say the ferrule doesn't add any more protection, but it is what it is for me anway.
sdandrea1 DC300 Damn I’m getting old, I look at them and say “nice looking, I’m not going to bother hitting them” Pretty does not equal hittable........in golf clubs, that is 😉
sdandrea1 Sneakylong I like ferrules too. It was just that the no ferrule design was part of the original signature of the brand. Adding ferrules was one of the symptoms of conformity. PING was no longer a standout.
Tinker Looks like forged blades are back. Now if Ping would just do a bright chrome finish they would have something.

fatshot sdandrea1 Dang.....sweet looking, but I'm afraid they're beyond my skill set anymore!!! I'll have to stick with my Raptures!!
Typhoon The hydropearl finish has to go. Great concept maybe? Never heard anyone who actually plays golf say that finish helped save them... It has to go because after a couple rounds the heads look like crap. I buffed mine out...best thing I ever did. If/when I get new Pings, I'll ask the wrx people to blast the finish off before I get them. See what they say.
Tinker I assume they are carbon steel. Whatever coating they use must be cheaper than chrome plating.
Typhoon They use that hydropearl finish on all their irons now Tinker. I think its just a coating, so it can be removed.
sdandrea1 Typhoon They use that hydropearl finish on all their irons now Tinker. I think its just a coating, so it can be removed. That finish marks up real easy. It is also easy to remove. I scrubbed my G400 irons with Bar Keepers Friend and a green scotch rite pad and it comes right off, leaving a mildly shiny satin finish that is durable.
Typhoon sdandrea1 Screw that PVD finish...you never know what it'll look like after a year or one trip to a grass range with Sandy soil.
Typhoon sdandrea1 That's what I did with my ie1 irons in addition to stripping that hideous blue paintfill
sdandrea1 Eguller I think it's their new standard. According to their website, its the G400, G700, i500, i210. The iBlade description does not mention hydropearl. Te Blueprint iron seems to be the iBlade replacement and it looks like it has the hyrdopearl. https://ping.com/clubs/irons
Eguller Just a follow up to an old thread. Did buffing off the hydropearl finish on the newer PING irons work long term ? What was the best way to do it? Happy you did it, etc. ? Thanks
