After about 4 years of leaning into the Milo Lines school of thought, and drilling it into my head/body with hours of practice, I made a complete U-turn when I started watching Korean Pro Golfer Heo videos on YouTube.
I suppose one could easily call his method 'non-traditional,' although he freely and frequently mentions that most of his ideas are really those of Mike Bender, who was his teacher.
To boil it down to its basics, the backswing is a simple turn without extension or counterbalancing, so the head goes a bit behind the ball. The downswing proceeds by starting with the arms, aiming the butt of the club at the ball. The swing is 'towards one o'clock.' Around impact, the forearm supinates and you snap through the ball like snapping a towel. After impact you make an effort to fold the arms up toward your shoulder, never moving your arms around your body. The turn moves you to a perfect follow-through position.
Above all, the muscles are relaxed, especially the shoulders and wrists. The power in the swing comes from feeling and directing the momentum of the clubhead, rather than from trying to hit the ball.
I like it. There is a steep learning curve, but it all makes sense to me. It is a smooth, rhythmic, seemingly almost effortless swing.
